Reckitt Benckiser Group plc has announced that specific batches of Durex condoms are being recalled after they failed to pass the company’s required safety standards. The manufacturer is advising that there is a risk that the condom might tear or leak, reducing its protection from sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy.
In a product recall notice, the company said the safety of its consumers always comes first.
We recently found that a limited number of condoms made earlier this year are not passing our stringent shelf life durability tests, it said. “Our tests have shown that some batches which are currently on the market in the United Kingdom and Ireland do not pass the requirements for burst pressure towards the end of the shelf life for the product.”
The notice states: “There is no immediate safety concern for consumers.”
Anyone concerned about the issue is being advised to consult with a healthcare professional or sexual health provider.
Patients can be reassured that only a limited number of batches are affected. Products corresponding to one of the batch numbers given below, should not be used:
