The British Thoracic Society (BTS) is inviting applications for the co-chair positions of 2 new guideline groups. Members are invited to apply for a co-chair position on either the Pleural Disease Guideline Development Group, and for the role of co-chairs of the Sleep Disordered Breathing in Children Guideline Development Group.

Applicants must be BTS members. Although individuals may apply, the advice is that co-chair positions should ideally submit a joint application, as at least one of the co-chairs for each guideline must have direct experience of the Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation guideline production methodology. The application should contain a joint statement outlining the reasons for wishing to co-chair the group and what skills and expertise each co-chair would bring.

One of the first tasks for the successful candidates will be the production of a detailed scope for the new guideline, for presentation to the BTS Standards of Care Committee meeting on 20 March 2018. The co-chairs will then be closely involved in the recruitment and selection of members of the guideline development group.

Applications must be submitted to sally.welham@brit-thoracic.org.uk by 5 pm on Monday, 22 January 2018.

In 2017, the BTS published new guidelines on the management of non-tuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease and released an updated version of the BTS Guidelines for oxygen use in healthcare and emergency settings. Guidelines on the use of long-term macrolide, investigation and management of pleural mesothelioma and outpatient management of pulmonary embolism are due this year.
