The Information Services Division Scotland has published the statistics on childhood immunisation in Scotland for the third quarter of 2019. Vaccination data at age 12 months, 24 months, five years and six years are recorded by the NHS Board and local authority.
Key findings from the report are as follows:
- Scotland had high vaccination uptake rates; approximately 96 per cent of children having received every routine immunisation by the time they were 12 months of age, with the exception of rotavirus vaccine which had a slightly lower uptake rate of 93.2 per cent.
- The lower uptake rate for rotavirus vaccination can be explained by the short-time window for administering the vaccine.
- Most children had received their booster vaccines by the time they were 24 months of age. The uptake rates for Hib/MenC, pneumococcal conjugate vaccine and MenB were 94.4 per cent, 94.4 per cent and 93.7 per cent.
- Nearly 94 per cent of children had received their first dose of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine by the time they were 24 months of age. This figure increased to 97 per cent for children who turned five years in the quarter ending September 2019, thereby surpassing the 95 per cent target.
- The uptake rate for the second dose of MMR vaccine by age five years was 91.8 per cent. This rose to 93.8 per cent by age six.
