The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has launched a new dedicated coronavirus Yellow Card reporting website.
The programme will help identify safety concerns which might not have been previously known, adding to the limited understanding of COVID-19-related information that is available currently.
Health care professionals, patients and carers are urged to report any suspected side effects of medicines (including herbal and homeopathic remedies), future vaccines, medical devices and diagnostics associated with COVID-19 on the new website. Since the MHRA staff are working remotely since 23 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reporting of side effects should be done electronically instead of paper.
MHRA also encourages reporting of counterfeit/fake medicines or medical devices, including COVID-19 testing kits. A dedicated phone line (0800 731 6789) is available for specifically reporting incidents associated with ventilators and respiratory support.
