Doctor charged with four counts of sexual assault

A doctor in Aylesbury has appeared in court in relation to four charges of sexual assault at two hospitals in Buckinghamshire.

The BMJ reports that Salman Qureshi, 39, appeared at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on 13 September. Dr Qureshi was granted bail and will appear before Aylesbury Crown Court on 14 October.

He is charged with two counts each of sexual assault of a female and assault of a female over 13 by penetration. The offences are alleged to have taken place at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury and Wycombe General Hospital in High Wycombe. Dr Qureshi was charged on 3 September in relation to the incidents, which are alleged to have occurred between September 2005 and August 2018.

In a statement, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “We can confirm that Salman Qureshi is no longer employed by the trust. However, as this case is subject to a police investigation, it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this stage.”

“The safety of our staff and patients is our number one priority and we are giving the police our full cooperation,” the trust said.
