The medical practitioners tribunal inquiry into a psychiatrist accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a vulnerable patient is set to resume before the end of the month.
Dr Timothy Byrne (GMC reference number 4138295) previously appeared before the tribunal in July. The hearing was adjourned on 18 July, having been part heard. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) has announced that the hearing will re-commence on 28 November 2019 and is expected to run until 5 December 2019.
The tribunal is inquiring into allegations that between 2007 and 2016, Dr Byrne acted as Patient A’s treating psychiatrist and/or care coordinator, during which time he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with the patient. It is alleged that on one occasion the psychiatrist entered the patient’s house unannounced. It is claimed that Dr Byrne’s actions were sexually motivated.
In addition, the doctor faces further allegations that between June 2012 and June 2013, he engaged in a sexual relationship with Patient A. He failed to record any intimacy in her medical records or report any intimacy to his employer and/or colleagues, it is alleged.
It is alleged that Patient A was vulnerable at all material times as a result of her mental health.
The hearing is set to take place at the MPTS office in Manchester.
