Since early July 2020, the NHS Louisa Jordan hospital in Scotland has provided orthopaedic and plastic surgery outpatient consultations to 315 patients.
The NHS Louisa Jordan hospital was constructed at the Scottish Events Campus in Glasgow in April 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, it has not been required to treat patients with COVID-19 as the virus is being continually suppressed. The hospital named after the Scottish First World War nurse Sister Louisa had 1036 bed bays built, with an initial capacity to treat 300 patients.
After NHS Lanarkshire successfully ran a three-week project, plans have been drafted to expand the services offered at the hospital and boost the number of daily outpatients coming from health boards across Scotland. New services likely to be offered include essential diagnostics such as X-rays, computed tomography scanning and ultrasounds, along with speciality dermatology appointments.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "Although the NHS Louisa Jordan has not been required to treat COVID-19 patients, it remains a vital asset in our phased approach to resuming NHS services safely where we can. It is providing capacity to reduce waiting lists and improve outcomes for patients across Scotland."
