Two more UK cases of COVID-19

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has announced two more cases of COVID-19 in England, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 15.

In a statement issued earlier today (27 February 2020), the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Professor Chris Whitty, said the two new cases of COVID-19 had been contracted in Italy and Tenerife.

The patients have been transferred to specialist NHS infection centres in the Royal Liverpool Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital, London.

As of 27 February, a total of 7,690 people in the UK have been tested for the virus, of which 7,675 were confirmed negative.

The DHSC will be publishing a further update tomorrow.

Public Health England has published guidance on the investigation and initial clinical management of possible cases of COVID-19. Specific guidelines have been developed for primary care.
