Updates on HIV drug interactions in elderly patients and those with renal impairment.

Updated information on drug interactions in people living with HIV is available from the University of Liverpool’s HIV Drug Interactions website (www.druginteractions.org). An update to the iChart app is also available.

  • In the Prescribing Resources section, “Prescribing guidance for elderly PLWH” has been expanded to include two new tables: the top ten drug classes to avoid and common prescribing cascades to avoid.
  • The “Dosing of ARVs for patients with renal impairment” page has been updated to include the latest antiretroviral drugs and new coformulations.
  • A new treatment selector on “Dosing of selected non-ARVs for patients with renal impairment” has been added.

Three new comedications have been added to the interaction checker. Ciclesonide and flunisolide are listed in the steroid class and have a lower potential to cause corticosteroid-related systemic effects compared to some other inhaled corticosteroids. Red yeast rice is a herbal preparation and contains monacolin K, a natural component with the same chemical structure as lovastatin.

The site is free to access and contains a range of prescribing resources.
