Making Your Practice Autism Friendly

Carole Buckley
GP, The Old School Surgery, Bristol

In this expert presentation, GP at The Old School Surgery Bristol Dr Carole Buckley, teaches how you can best address the needs of autistic patients and make your clinic autism friendly. Autism is a complex lifelong condition which affects social communication and includes rigid and repetitive behaviours. It affects everyone differently, and patients have an uneven profile of ability. Recognising the barriers to accessing heath care is the first step. Importantly, all staff needs training on how to approach autistic patients, not just physicians. Dr Buckley then provides simple tips on what to do before, during and after a consultation with autistic patients to provide the best service to them.
