COVID-19: new micro-course developed for front-line health care staff

A new app-based micro-course has been developed for front-line health workers to help them build resilience and maintain well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The one-hour course developed by Dignity Health Global Education (DHGE) in collaboration with the University of Exeter provides insights on how health care workers can tackle unprecedented situations they encounter on a daily basis. The course teaches them how well-being can be maintained through nutrition and rest, preparing for adversity and applying mental skills in the moment.

The curriculum of the course has been split into three main areas:

  • "Psyching up your mindset" which focuses on building mental resiliency and toughness.
  • "Fueling up for shift work" which explores practice ways to eat well.
  • "Keeping up with shift work" which offers practical advice on sleeping and when to eat or avoid eating.

The course was developed using peer-reviewed research, government reports and insights from professional institutions and is delivered via the EdApp (available on iOS and Android platforms). The cost of the course is USD 10, and the profits will go to charities in the UK and the US.

Andrew Malley, Chief Executive Officer for DHGE, said: "We believe this programme will give frontline workers tools to do the incredible work they are doing by strengthening their mindset using some of the same tools used by elite athletes and those in other high-pressure disciplines."

More information about the course is available here.
